Article #: IMP1012F  Product: Flare   Version: all

Exception: Failed to update FrameMaker init file (C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe FrameMaker 7.2\maker.ini)

Full Description:

If a user can access both Flare and FrameMaker, but gets the following error when trying to import FrameMaker files:

The problem may be related to the way Windows 7 gives out permissions to users.

Solution:

You need to "assume ownership" in order to get the import to work correctly. Use the following steps to do this:

  1. Go to C:\Program Files(x86)\Adobe FrameMaker 7.2\
  2. Right click on the file "maker.ini"
  3. Select "Properties"
  4. Go to the "Security" tab
  5. Select "Advanced"
  6. Click "Edit"
  7. Select your Windows log-in username
  8. Click "Edit"
  9. Make sure that the "Full Control" box is ticked
  10. Click OK until you're out of the Properties dialog
  11. You should be able to import successfully now
