Styles and Images Disappear if the .CHM File Is Renamed

Article #: OUTH1009F  Product: Flare   Version: 3.1

Summary:

If a .CHM file is renamed, styles are not applied to content and some linked images may disappear.

Full Description:

A change was made in Flare 3.1 generated .CHMs in how the stylesheet is linked to the topics and called to address issues people were having printing topics from .CHMs. You can see this in the .CHM topic’s source code.

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Windows-1252" />
<title>Topic</title>
<link href="ms-its:Manual.chm::/Resources/Stylesheets/Styles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

Since the .chm is calling itself by the name under which it was compiled, renaming the .CHM breaks this link.

Solution:

MadCap Software now offers a patch. Please see article PATF3102 and follow the instructions to install the patch.
