Red Outline When Recording in Windows Vista

When recording movies in Windows Vista a red line appears on the top and left sides in the captured background bitmaps.

Full Description:

The Aero color scheme for Windows Vista creates a shadowing effect on any windows or programs. This shadowing effect moves the recording area so that the red border Mimic creates to denote the recording area is saved in the background bitmap.

Solution:

Change the Windows Vista color scheme from Aero to Vista Basic:

  1. Right-click on the Windows Desktop
  2. Select "Personalize"
  3. Click "Window Color and Appearance"
  4. Click "Open classic appearance properties for more color options"
  5. In the Color Scheme box, select Windows Vista Basic
  6. Hit OK
  7. Close out the Personalization Control Panel
