Documents, Topics, Builds Panes not Displaying in Word 2016

Summary:

When launching Doc-To-Help 5 via Word 2016 on certain Windows 10 machines you may encounter in issue which results in various Doc-To-Help panes not displaying, as seen in the screenshot below.

Solution:

There are 2 possible solutions to the behavior described above. The first option is to change Word's multiple display user interface option from "Optimize for best appearance" to "Optimize for compatibility". Please follow the procedure outlined below.

  1. Launch Word 2016
  2. Navigate to
    File > Options > General
  3. Select the radio button next to "Optimize for compatibility" and click OK
  4. Close all open instances of Word
  5. Reopen Word and confirm that the behavior is correct

The second solution for this issue is to update the Windows version to Windows 10 build 1803 or later.
